Like many woman nowadays I had a career before I started a family. But when children came along, the demands of long hours, time away from home and commuting just didn’t fit with family life so we decided that a career break was needed.
I had always planned to return to work when my children started school. However, when my daughter began primary school I realised that in many respects working would now be harder to fit in, not easier! With a school day of just over six hours, thirteen weeks a year holidays and in-set days, all before anyone got sick, I was left wondering how I was going to manage.
I looked at lots of options, part-time, term time only, breakfast and after school clubs and holiday clubs and just couldn’t find a good combination that would be financial worth while and provide the balance I wanted.
I felt the positions that offered the flexibility I needed were nearly always not interesting and the challenging jobs suited people without children much better that those with.
I began looking for ways of finding a better way of balancing family life and work and stumbled upon the Beautiful Bling Company.
I now have fifteen jewellery cabinets in outlets very close to my home and work approximately twenty hours a week, taking almost all the school holidays off. I don’t pay for any childcare as I fit my working hours around school times and can easily rearrange my days if anyone is ill! It means that my husband and I rarely have to split time off work to cover school holidays and I can be at sports days and special assemblies whenever they pop up, no matter how short notice.
The actual day to day job is varied, interesting and fun. I deal with lots of nice people and I’m very much my own boss. The training I received was excellent and the support has been above and beyond what you would expect. Laura and Jim have been great and are always just at the end of the phone.
Because the business is based from home, the running costs are minimal; petrol, phone and insurance which for me equates to less than £100 per month.
I chat to many other Mums who are all looking for the ‘ideal’ job for someone with young children at school and I truly believe my situation is as good as it gets! It is still hard work and comes with the demands of running a business, but if it didn’t I’d soon get bored anyway!
I would not hesitate to recommend this to people with young families who enjoy challenges and hard work and want something that really does fit in with family life.
