What are the key features of the products or services that your business offers:
we offer award winning music and singing classes to the under 5’s via a franchise network

When & how did you start up in business?
In 2004 as I searched (and failed to find) a decent music class for own son

How did you decide what business to go into, and what was your motivation?
It was a complete step into the unknown for me as my background was in nursing but I felt so strongly that a good music class should be enjoyable and stimulating and truly interactive rather then an endurance test for parent and child.

What were the most challenging aspects to setting up?
Finding the time initially as the children were a lot younger and I was also recovering from a very traumatic episode of PND but we got there in the end!

What has been your biggest business achievement?
I think the way in which the franchise network has built up and also winning the What’s On 4 Little Ones Award in 2008 beating off some very well established competition!

Have, or do you do anything out of the ordinary to benefit your business?
Not really, I am terribly conventional although not necessarily risk averse.

What stage is your business at now & what are your plans for the future?
We are settling in nicely but would really like to keep building up the network and developing the merchandising side of things. There are so many possibilities!

How do you manage to juggle your business with family life? Has it been challenging?
Very challenging although everyone has been amazingly supportive. I worker harder and for longer hours then every before but don’t regret a single thing.

Has online networking, specifically with other mums, benefited your business?
Yes, it is so beneficial to be able to keep in touch with other business mums and to share the trials and tribulations.

What resources do you NOT have now that might make your life easier?
Oooh! A Butler would be nice and a housekeeper!

What advice would you give another mum considering starting her own business?
Get used to having an untidy house. No seriously get used to it, learn to step over things or walk around them but you must ignore!!
