Angela Osborn lives and works in South London and runs her own Jewel Party Franchise…
I run a Jewel Party franchise in south London and absolutely love my job! I am a single mother of three and so found it hard to find something that would be flexible enough for me to fit around my busy schedule and also give me enough income to make it worth it.
Jewel party is great because you have complete control over when you work and for how long. You can choose which parties to take on and book them in when you are available. You are also working with other mums who understand the demands of having children.
I usually work between 10am-2.00pm two days a week when the children are at school, this time covers all of the admin, advertising and ordering of jewellery materials, finances etc…
I then also run around 4 Jewellery Parties a week, usually on the weekends, you can fit up to 3 jewellery parties in a day as they are only 1.5 hours long and as they are all fairly close to me this is fine. I do however have a car, which not everyone does so depending on your public transport links you may not be able to do as many parties per day. My total working hours per week are around 14 hours and I earn around £400 per week (that is almost £30 per hour!).
Before I started my jewel party franchise I had absolutely no experience with making jewellery, I had worked with children before but not in this way. Jewel party provide really good training, which is also ongoing. They take you through all of the skills and techniques needed to run each of the parties and also provide you will all the basic tools and materials you need. They also gave me a guide to running the franchise, which has been like my Bible, I refer to it all the time.
In the first year of your franchise you have access to a mentor, which is basically a designated person you can contact if you have any problems or questions so there is plenty of support available.
In terms of ongoing costs, I have to buy in all the materials for the parties but this is included in the cost of the party so don’t eat into my profits. You can also spend money on advertising e.g. in local magazines etc… You are given leaflets and promotional materials but you may need to pay to put them up in some places depending on where you are based.
You do need some storage space for all the kit. I have a cupboard in the living room, which has been perfect.
There are no real downsides to the job, you just need to be willing to put sometime in to advertising and the party bookings will start coming in. If you enjoying working with children and like to be creative I would really recommend the Jewel Party Franchise as they are fun, rewarding and the best job I have ever had!
