What are the key features of the products or services that your business offers: Beautiful and affordable furniture and homewares.

Why should customers and clients use your services?
We are a small and friendly business run from home so we can keep our costs low and offer great and friendly customer service. We fill a gap in the market as we sell beautiful products but at affordable prices.

When & how did you start up in business?
October 2008

How did you decide what business to go into, and what was your motivation?
After having 2 children it seemed the right time to try to set something up from home and have more time to spend with the family. I've always had a strong interest in interiors and wanted to be able to source beautiful things directly for my own home and also to make them available for everybody at a reasonable price.

What were the most challenging aspects to setting up?
Trying to find a good designer / programmer for the website and understanding all of the technical elements to it. Also trying to maintain a good work / life balance, it's quite easy to become obsessed and log on at any available moment.

What has been your biggest business achievement?
I feel fantastic every time we get a mention in the press. It's amazing.

Have, or do you do anything out of the ordinary to benefit your business?
We set up photoshoots to take pictures of our furniture in context, we hire lovely houses and set them up with our products so our customers can really see how they might fit into their home and can get inspiration from us.

What stage is your business at now & what are your plans for the future?
The business is growing well, my main focus is on PR and also increasing the range. I also intend to start a blog. Long term we'd like to work on a children’s range of stylish furniture for children, we feel there is a gap in the market.

How do you manage to juggle your business with family life? Has it been challenging?
Yes initially. As I work from home it's really hard to switch off, there is always something I could be doing. Things are getting easier now and I'm becoming more disciplined. However we want a holiday this year and are still working out how that's going to work? Maybe I should take my laptop...

Has online networking, specifically with other mums, benefited your business?
I'm a newcomer to the networking scene

What advice would you give another mum considering starting her own business?
Do your research, write a business plan, but most of all believe in yourself. Keep your costs as low as possible and just give it a go, it might just work.
