When & how did you start up in business?
I set the business up in June 2006 selling children's craft materials. In January 2008 I diversified to personalised ribbons of all kinds.
How did you decide what business to go into, and what was your motivation?
The children’s craft materials side of the business meant that I was making a lot of the materials myself. As materials can be bought so cheaply now it meant that it was not a unique business any more. That is when I discovered printed ribbons and haven’t looked back.
What were the most challenging aspects to setting up? The most challenging aspect of setting up my business was finding funding. When I could find any I decided it had to bew a slow and gradual process.
What has been your biggest business achievement?
Selling my biggest ever order of sashes to a well know retail TV channel!
Have, or do you do anything out of the ordinary to benefit your business?
I probably would if I thought of something!!
What stage is your business at now & what are your plans for the future?
Well the business is growing.....slowly. I plan to build the business over the next year or so.
How do you manage to juggle your business with family life? Has it been challenging?
Yes it has been challenging to juggle family life as well as work. even more so since I started home educating my 14 year old son too. We manage to juggle most days.
Has online networking, specifically with other mums, benefited your business? This has been something that has definitely helped. Without someone in a similar position to sound things out too I think I would have thrown in the towel along time ago.
What resources do you NOT have now that might make your life easier?
The only thing that I need right now is funding to do more advertising.
What advice would you give another mum considering starting her own business?
Prepare well and go for it.
