Anyone with a baby in the family knows how hard it can be to find the perfect present for a newborn.
But a mum from Strood (in Kent) has come up with an unusual solution. Jen Sargeant, of Coventry Close has recently launched her own website, Jen’s Nappy Cakes. A nappy cake is traditionally a cake shaped stack of nappies and baby accessories, but Jen has designed other shapes, including a nappy trike.
Jen said: “I was looking for an unusual business that I could work around my family. I am quite creative and had heard about the American nappy cake idea. There are not many people making them in the UK so I thought I would set up my own company.”
Jen, who is 36, works closely with the client to design something unique. As well as shapes, Jen also works with themes, including colours or designs.
A small one tier cake, including 10 nappies and other accessories costs as little as £20, but a large three tier cake is popular with families expecting twins or triplets. Jen sells her nappy cakes online and in a number of local shops, but is looking to expand the business, a challenge for anyone in the current climate. But with her unusual idea in a captive market, it’s surely only a matter of time before that dream becomes a reality.
