 Pyjama Drama
Franchise

Description of Company:

Pyjama Drama was the brainchild of Sarah Owen, experienced Drama teacher and Mum of three young children, who set up the company over three and a half years ago. The program is creative and fun, combining the elements of drama, music, movement and play, and aims to develop key social skills whilst stimulating the imagination. We believe that drama and creative play should be central to the lives of children and therefore actively encourage parents to join in with sessions, helping their children develop those essential life skills.

Work Description:

In the main the work entails leading Pyjama Drama sessions for children aged between 2 and 5 years old. Sessions can be delivered to the ‘public’ or in nurseries, playgroups, Parent and Toddler groups, infant schools and at parties. Sessions are primarily delivered within school terms allowing franchisees to have regular holidays, although a Pyjama Drama Summer scheme will also be available for those franchisees wishing to take sessions over the summer holiday period.

Average hours per week:

Working hours are variable and dependant on the individual franchisee. Each session lasts for 40 minutes so it is possible to teach up to six sessions in between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. Non teaching related work (office administration) may involve as little as an hour or two a week, but again this depends on the individual.

Investment required:

The franchise costs just £2,500 (special launch offer of 20% off for all franchises bought before January 1st 2009) and an additional investment for advertising and publicity of £500 - £1,000 is advisable.

Earning Potential:

For a forty minute session, franchisees could expect to charge anywhere between £4 and £5:50, depending on the area.  Delivering twelve sessions per week, with twelve children per class, could generate an income of in between £576 - £792 per week (before costs for room hire). Extra income can also be made through the sale of Pyjama Drama T shirts and CD’s.

Experience Required:

Experience of playing with children is essential (either within a work setting or as a parent) as are basic office skills. A background or interest in drama is desirable (this may simply be a love of drama at school) and potential franchisees should have a warm and friendly personality that would appeal to young children. They should also take genuine pleasure in singing, dancing, telling stories and have the confidence to lead groups of children (and their parents!) in drama and creative play.

Training & Support:

Franchisees undertake one full days training in Mid Wales, when they are also provided with a comprehensive manual complete with easy to follow session plans and guidance on how to run all aspects of the business. Thereafter ongoing support is provided in the form of the Pyjama Drama ‘buddy system’ whereby each franchisee is assigned an experienced ‘buddy’ whom they can call on for help or advice.

Car Required:

The franchisee who wishes to maximise the full potential of their territory would probably require a car. Equipment is reasonably ‘bulky’ so however the franchisee wished to travel to sessions, this would need to be taken in to consideration.

Storage Required:

Enough space for a box of instruments, a small bag of play balls and a parachute.

Additional information:

Potential franchisees need access to a home computer and some space for administrative material (invoices, letters etc) would be required.
