 Pyjama Drama
Franchise

Description of Company:

Pyjama Drama combines the creative elements of drama, movement, music and play and has been enjoyed by thousands of preschool children (and their parents!) since 2005. The programme aims to develop key skills such as concentration, confidence and co-operation, supports the current requirements of the National Curriculum and is taught between the ages of 2 and 7 years.

Our innovative approach to improvisation and role play is child led and our original music is skilfully integrated within sessions to further enhance the creative experience.

The world of Pyjama Drama is a thrilling place – one week we may fly to the moon on a wooden spoon, the next compete in a bicycle race against a family of grasshoppers and the next have tea with the Queen. The possibilities are endless and as there is no limit to a child’s imagination, you can never be sure what will happen next!

Work Description:

Pyjama Drama is taught in private day nurseries, at playgroups, in infant schools, at parties and in ‘public sessions’. Sessions are primarily delivered to parallel the school term as most of our franchisees have growing families, although some also continue to work during school holidays and therefore further supplement their income in this way.

Within a typical month a Franchise Manager would find him/herself teaching the Pyjama Drama programme, marketing their business within their franchise territory, networking with potential customers such as nursery managers and other parents and completing administrative tasks related to the successful running of a business.

Average hours per week:

Working hours are variable and dependant on the individual Franchise Manager. Each preschool session lasts for forty minutes so it is possible to teach up to six sessions in between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. Classes for children between five and seven years are one hour long. Non teaching related work (office administration) may involve as little as an hour or two a week, but again this is dependent on the individual.

Investment required:

Our initial franchise fee is £5,850 (no VAT). Franchisees are also required to hold a marketing budget of £1,000 in their bank account.

Earning Potential:

The potential for the generation of an excellent income is available to all – it is possible to earn a full time wage for working flexible, part time hours and Franchise Managers also have the opportunity to expand their territory (and further increase their income) by taking on Session Leaders.

Fees for delivering the programme in nurseries and playgroups typically vary from £35 - £50 per session (depending on a number of factors including the area in which you live), £60 - £100 for a forty minute party and £60 - £80 for an hour long session in a school. When delivering ‘public sessions’ a Franchise Manager can expect to generate a turnover of approximately £60 per session for preschool classes and £85 for children in the older age range. These examples are based on a franchisee having a full class.

Experience Required:

Just as all children are different, so are our franchisees. However, there are certain skills personal attributes and experience we look for in all of our team which include; a genuine love of playing with young children, integrity, honesty, drive and the ability to work as part of a team, the ability to inspire and captivate young children, the ability to enter in to imaginary worlds and good organisational skills.

You do not have to be a trained teacher, however drama and creative play forms an integral part of each session so the ability to take on and engage with a role, and to improvise is essential.

Training & Support:

We strive to exceed the expectation of everyone who comes in to contact with our company and with our programme and as such provide Franchise Managers with a robust training programme and continued ongoing support.

  • A five day training programme (four days ‘on site’ and one ‘remote’ training day)
  • A fully comprehensive manual guiding you through the smooth running of every aspect of your business
  • Ongoing help, support and guidancevia Head office and peer support via our on line forum
  • Performance Management programme designed to enable Franchise Managers to develop their teaching skills (delivered remotely and through annual visits)
  • Tailored marketing plans for your first year and beyond, drawn up in conjunction with our Director, Rhian, who has ten years experience as a business and marketing consultant
  • A National ongoing marketing strategy to include past and future events with Phil Gallagher from Mister Maker
  • A yearly seminar designed to provide both training and networking opportunities
  • Ongoing training in relation to the continuing development of our programme (to be launched in 2010 or programme for 5 – 7 year olds for example)

Car Required:

The Franchise Manager who wishes to maximise the full potential of their territory would probably require a car. Equipment is reasonably ‘bulky’ so however the franchisee wished to travel to sessions, this would need to be taken in to consideration.

Storage Required:

Enough space to store your play equipment

Additional information:

Potential franchisees need access to a home computer and some space for administrative material (invoices, letters etc) would be required.
