When & how did you start up in business? Knot Just Jigs online was born at the beginning of 2007.
How did you decide what business to go into, and what was your motivation? We had been retailing at craft fairs, schools, house party and other events and realised that the way forward was to have a website. This has become a perfect addition to our off line retail business, allowing us to show our complete range of toys to the wider audience. Our focus initially was traditional wooden toys which parents and grandparents alike love to buy because of their quality, educational value, durability and imaginative play value but the range has expanded and also diversified.
What were the most challenging aspects to setting up? Learning to use the computer!
What has been your biggest business achievement? Giving up my employment to run the business full time.
Have, or do you do anything out of the ordinary to benefit your business? I attend an enormous amount of fairs and find this is great for PR !
What stage is your business at now & what are your plans for the future? Business is doing really well and steadily growing.
How do you manage to juggle your business with family life? Has it been challenging? Lists, lists and more lists....and yes it has been challenging but very worthwhile.
What advice would you give another mum considering starting her own business? research the market and come up with a niche, don’t expect it to be successful overnight and be prepared to live, eat and breath it!
