Erica Douglas has gone from being a redundant waitress to an award winning entrepreneur and business owner in under two years. Erica runs her own successful information products business from home using the exact model she’ll share in her session at the Business & Baby Show. The business won a Best Start Up award in 2010 and provides a full time income while Erica works just 15 hours a week while she studies at University. Erica has gone on to teach hundreds of other mums how to make money online either with their own business or through other monetisation methods. Her first book ‘How to Make Money Online’ co-written with her business partner Antonia Chitty is due to be published in summer 2012.
In this session Erica will share her online business model and describe how social media, blogs and email marketing fit together to create an online business that can be automated and outsourced. The business model works whether you have a business already or are looking to create one. Erica will cover the business model in detail using examples from the audience on how it can be applied to a number of different scenarios.
Session - midday - How to make your first £100
There’s a lot of confusion surrounding social media, blogging, email marketing and how it fits into a traditional business model and how to find the time for it all. In this session we’ll cut straight through this using a clear model of what a successful online business looks like and how everything fits together. It’s really important online to understand the flow of traffic and how to direct your traffic to where you need it to go. We’ll go through the model step by step, tracking a person from stranger right through to loyal customer.
Whether you have a business already or you’re looking for ways to make money online this business model works for all.
For those with a business the model becomes an online marketing strategy that will drive a constant stream of new customers to your business website, furthermore the model creates a way to turn one time customers into loyal repeat business, the lifeblood of any successful business.
For those without a business we’ll cover the three ways in which you can begin using this model to create your own online business. These monetisation strategies are; monetising traffic, affiliate marketing, creating and selling your own products.
Monetising Traffic – The model is used to create ‘interest’ websites covering niche topics. The websites can then be monetised by selling advertising space.
Affiliate Marketing – The model is used to create large audiences, usually through interesting content. The readers are then upsold affiliate products that the business owner receives a commission on.
Creating and Selling your own Products – The model is used to create a fan base for your products whether this be eBooks and eCourses, artwork, music or handcrafted goods.
You can create an online business like the one I’ll describe with less than £200 and during the session we’ll go through the costs and processes required to do this including creating your own website.
Finally I’ll share the three concepts that I’ve used to build a business that allows me to earn a full time income in part-time hours.
Multiple Income Streams – Why have one income stream when you can have ten? One income stream means that you can easily fall prey to market changes wheras multiple income streams gives you stability, arguably more stability than a traditional 9-5 job.
Passive Income – This is income that requires little or no continued work to maintain. Offline examples would be rent or dividends. I’ll share the online versions in the session.
Leverage – You don’t have to reinvent the wheel to be successful in business. Leveraging what you already have is the key to being successful, especially when you first start out.
The session will be fast moving and interactive. Don’t forget a pen and paper, it’s my mission to have everyone leave with at least one idea and one action point to start making (more) money online.
